Decorate an office, powder room, or study with this charming antique painted waste basket. Crafted in France circa 1920, the oval tôle container features a hand-painted sailing ship motif set against a soft celadon green ground. The nautical decoration is enhanced by a beautifully aged craquelure surface and scattered distressing throughout, giving the piece wonderful texture and authentic timeworn character.
The tapered form is finished with rolled edges and retains its original pale green painted interior. The mellow painted surface, combined with the weathered maritime scene, creates a decorative object full of French country charm and coastal appeal. Lightweight yet sturdy, the antique waste basket would also work beautifully as a decorative storage container beside a desk, in a bathroom, or on a covered porch interior.
The painted metal vessel is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, with desirable oxidation, surface wear, and patina consistent with age.
