The Lagash Vessel draws its name from the ancient Sumerian city of Lagash, one of the earliest centers of urban civilization in southern Mesopotamia nearly five thousand years ago. Lagash was a place of temples, carved stone statues, and clay tablets recording the rhythms of early city life. Objects crafted there rarely served decoration alone. They carried presence, ritual, and permanence.
This vessel reflects that quiet authority. Its rounded body recalls early ceremonial containers found across Bronze Age Mesopotamia, while the restrained shoulder forms hint at horned elements seen in ritual objects of the period. The deep charcoal surface was intentionally finished to create a patina that feels aged and weathered rather than newly made.
The Lagash Vessel stands as a contemporary interpretation of ancient material culture, honoring the enduring relationship between earth, and form.
