Chinese Mahogany Barrel Box with Brass Mounts Era: Late Qing–Republic Period, c. 1880–1930 Origin: China Material: Mahogany, Repoussé Brass Mounts
Overview: A Chinese mahogany barrel-form covered box with applied repoussé brass mounts throughout. The body is decorated with cast bat motifs — symbols of good fortune — flanked by ruyi cloud scroll borders at the rim and base. The fitted lid is surmounted by a cast brass qilin finial and secured by a brass hinge. The unlined interior reveals beautiful natural mahogany grain. Likely used as a tea caddy or spice container.
