Overview: A matched pair of recumbent mythical beast figures carved in the archaic Chinese style, their elongated bodies adorned with cloud scroll motifs evoking Han dynasty bixie and chilong imagery. The open-jawed heads, curling tails, and crouching stances are characteristic of apotropaic guardian creatures placed at tomb entrances to ward off evil spirits. One figure retains warm terracotta pigment, the other a cooler blue-grey, creating pleasing visual contrast as a display pair.
