This is a traditional Queen Anne style ladies secretary writing desk. It's a particularly lovely and feminine piece with unusually slim proportions and long elegant legs. The 2-piece secretary desk measures 72” tall, 26.5” wide, and 17.75” deep with a 29.5” table height. The diminutive footprint allows this piece to be placed almost anywhere. It would look beautiful in a bedroom, living room, or even a hallway.
The desk features solid mahogany construction, an upper curio display with a single glass door, 2 adjustable glass shelves with plate grooves, and built-in lighting. The bottom portion has a drop-down desk top that opens to reveal numerous little cubbies and a single small interior drawer. Two larger dovetail jointed drawers offer additional storage. Scalloped apron adorned with carved shell motif. Extra long and slender Queen Anne style legs terminate in pad feet. Original polished brass plated hardware.
The desk is unsigned but likely made in the late 20th century in the United States. Similar in style and quality to models manufactured by Ethan Allen and Jasper.
The late 20th century desk is in very good vintage condition. The desk is structural solid and everything works well, including the doors, drawers, and drop-down desk hinges. Wood finish is in very clean condition. There is a small area of finish loss on the table top and wear near the hinge. Faint scratches on the front of the drop-down panel. Scuffs on feet. Please see photos for more details about condition.
Separates into two pieces for transport.
