This high-quality studio ceramic art vase was crafted by the German ceramicist Josef Höhler (1909-1964) in Friedrichsroda, Gotha, in the Thuringia region of East Germany. The vase features a special black and silver oxide glaze that shimmers with green tones depending on the light. Its ingeniously asymmetrical handle is a striking feature.
Josef Höhler had his own studio in East Germany, which was later converted by the state into a state-owned enterprise (VEB) called KKF (Künstler Keramik Friedrichsroda – Artists' Ceramics Friedrichsroda). Even as an artist in East Germany, his work remained strongly influenced by the Bauhaus tradition. This piece has an attribution mark,
