Posts have some curl or figure to the maple but it isnt as strong as the figure in the headboard. Bed has a nice curved canopy frame. The most recent people that used the bed screwed a sheet of plywood over the rails and put their mattress on top of it. This originally had a tied rope support for the original mattress which is different than what we use today. Bed was made a little over 200 years ago before sizes were standardized. You could add angle irons to the rails and drop a modern box spring inside the rails. This would have to be custom sized The rails were extended to add length. This is shown in the photos. 1 of the foot post's has a crack at the top probably from the pin that was added to hold the canopy frame. Bed was refinished decades ago. The finish is now a bit dry. Some of the bed bolt covers are missing. Personally I would remove all of them. They just get in the way when assembling the bed. This will need a custom sized spring and or even a custom mattress. Bed is 82" long overall and 54 wide and stands 79" tall to top of canopy frame. Inside the rails the opening is 47 1/2" wide by 75 1/4" long. See less
