Elevate your space with this magnificent, statement-making Chinese Chippendale style giltwood wall mirror by the historic Friedman Brothers Decorative Arts company (Model #6522, "The Belvedere") [1]. Masterfully handcrafted circa 1985, this high-end piece showcases the exceptional carving and traditional gilding techniques that made Friedman Brothers the premier mirror maker for the White House, prestigious historic restorations, and luxury designers [1].
Design Details:The mirror features an extraordinarily ornate, asymmetrical frame inspired by mid-18th-century English designs. Fluid Rococo C-scrolls, delicate leaf-like tendrils, and floral flourishes frame the brilliant mirrored glass. The crown jewel of the piece is the spectacular crest, flanked by twin hand-carved, pierced phoenixes (traditional Ho-Ho birds) perched elegantly on the upper shoulders. This mirror perfectly blends dramatic European Rococo scale with the exoticism of the Chinoiserie movement. It serves as an incredible focal point for a grand foyer, over an elegant dining room buffet, or above a living room mantle.
While the original paper backing has worn away with age, this piece is definitively identified as Friedman Brothers Model #6522 ('The Belvedere') by its signature, highly detailed hand-carved framework, precise proportions, and distinct Ho-Ho bird crest detailing."

Frame is structurally sound with no major missing carved components. The gold leaf finish retains excellent brilliance with a beautiful, light aged patina. Glass is clear and bright. Note on Backing: The original paper backing on the reverse side is torn and degraded due to age, and the original manufacturer's paper label is no longer present. This is purely cosmetic to the rear of the piece and does not affect the structural integrity or display of the mirror. less
