ALL ORIGINAL no repairs!
Cut Corner Single Brass Taperstick
England c. 1700-1720
Tapersticks, diminutive candlesticks often sold as singles and best for use on desks or bedside tables, were made to hold tapers, primarily used to melt wax seals for letter writing. Their small size allowed for convenient use, whereas the larger candlestick was far better suited a stationary function in dining rooms or larger settings.
This fine example has an octagonal base with deep dip tray, supporting a faceted stem and a circular candle cup. Small casting flaws can be seen at one of the cut corners and rim of the candle cup. A pleasing patina has developed over time and we have chosen to leave this untouched. Should it be requested, we are happy to polish this taperstick before shipping.
