English leather gun case, designed for a rifle or shotgun and often referred to as a "leg of mutton" leather gun case due to its somewhat bulbous shape. This specific case was likely manufactured between 1890 and 1930 and the style was popular in the late Victorian era through the 1920s. The heavy, molded dark brown leather and buckled side-pouch are perfect examples of British sporting goods from the turn of the 20th century.
The case would make an interesting display for a hunting lodge, country cabin or library and can be paired with other period accurate items such as paintings, books and taxidermy game birds. Mounted horizontally ,or at a slight upward angle, it becomes a striking sculptural piece.
