It features a … Read more This object is an traditional antique Chinese opium pipe, commonly dated back to the late Qing Dynasty. It features a long, polished bone stem divided into segments joined by metal bands. The decorative metal section in the middle is known as the saddle, crafted from silvered brass. It features ornate repoussé work, often embedding small semi-precious stone cabochons like turquoise. The fluted, knob-like fixture resting on top of the saddle is the pipe bowl, made of stoneware. It has a tiny aperture where the opium pellet was vaporized over an open flame rather than burned directly. The exterior is embellished with intricate traditional Chinese decorative motifs, bats, longevity knot patterns. This collectible artifact is crafted in about late Qing Dynasty and can be found in museum collections with name as opium pipes. It is also considered a decorative item or collectible, showcasing intricate craftsmanship.
