Antique Chinese red lacquered wedding cabinet / wardrobe, from Shanxi Provence. Handcrafted with mortise-and-tenon joinery, this style of cabinet from the mid to late Qing dynasty, is traditionally presented to brides as part of their dowry. For instance the fruit in a footed vessel often symbolizes prosperity or good fortune. The piece is finished in a red lacquer, decorated with gilt floral arrangements in vases, and a large round brass faceplate. Inside is a built in fixed shelf with two drawers. The lower section features a vertical board that lifts up to expose a large storage compartment below.

Scattered scratches, indents, & paint loss with minor rippling of the lacquer on the doors. There are chips to the bottom and side edges of the two doors with old touch-ups. In the lower horizontal panel there is a hairline crack that runs left to right in the center of the panel. The paint and lacquer are very stable, no loose paint. This is a very old cabinet with expected blemishes for it's age - it's not "perfect" - yet it's in very good condition. Please look closely at pictures before purchasing and reach out if you have any questions.
