A striking and monumental covered vase, executed in the celebrated Sèvres taste, distinguished by its deep cobalt blue ground and lavish gilt decoration.
The form is elegant and architectural, rising from a richly cast gilt base into a baluster body crowned with its original domed lid. The proportions are carefully balanced, creating a sculptural presence that commands attention in any interior.
The cobalt ground is densely decorated with intricate gilt motifs - a refined pattern of scrolling forms and dotted reserves, characteristic of Sèvres-inspired ornamentation. This decorative field creates a luxurious visual texture, where gold and cobalt interact dynamically with changing light, producing subtle tonal shifts from deep blue to almost violet hues.
At the center, a finely painted cartouche depicts a romantic pastoral scene, executed with delicacy and narrative sensitivity. The composition - a young couple in a garden setting - reflects the enduring influence of 18th-century French Rococo and early Neoclassical imagery. The painting bears a signature “C. Niccolier” (reading requires confirmation), indicating the work of a decorator or studio painter.
The underside reveals a hand-painted inscription “Modèle et décoration exécutés à la main” along with a Sèvres-style mark.
The piece is preserved with its original lid, which significantly enhances both its rarity and market desirability.
A highly decorative and impressive object, embodying the luxury revival aesthetics of 19th–20th century French decorative arts, and offering strong visual impact in both classical and eclectic interiors.
