This porcelain portrait depicts Swedish actress Ingrid Bergman through the graphic visual language of Andy Warhol’s Pop Art. Produced by Rosenthal as an officially licensed reproduction of Warhol’s artwork, this numbered edition (07/49) uses silkscreen enamel to reproduce the artist’s distinctive treatment of photographic imagery. The composition combines blue, cream, hot pink, orange, and yellow, creating strong contrasts that emphasise the simplified features of the portrait.
Warhol’s celebrity portraits draw on the photographs used to construct and circulate public images of actors, musicians, and other well-known figures. By simplifying facial features and using unconventional colour combinations, he shifted attention from the individual subject to the image itself and its reproduction through mass media. Bergman’s portrait reflects his exploration of fame, photographic representation, and the relationship between popular imagery and fine art.
