Comes from a rare First Edition folio of the artist published by Albert Skira in Geneva, Switzerland in the 1950s. Printed on one side. Numbered at the lower right corner: 3. Excellent condition - never framed.

Daumier enjoyed nothing better than roaming leisurely the Paris streets, lingering now and then to watch some little scene or to gaze at a shop-window. We suspect that in the group of people staring at the pictures displayed on the wall he has included himself, scanning them with a vague hope, perhaps, of discovering some rarity, or perhaps simply finding in them the stuff of daydreams, an escape from the here-and-now--though all the while taking in the scene as an ensemble, with the practised eye of the great draftsman that he was.
