Comes from a rare First Edition folio of the artist published by Albert Skira in Geneva, Switzerland in the 1950s. Printed on one side. Numbered at the lower right corner: 2. After his marriage Daumier Lived on Seine bank, in the Ile Saint-Louis, from which he watched the washerwomen at work and children paddling in the river--just the sort of homely scene he most enjoyed and so often conjured up in his art. No painter of nudes, he made an exception in favor of children, and doubtless in this case was especially attracted by the gleams of pink which are leading motifs of this near-sentimental yet powerful composition.
