As standalone wooden figures are relatively rare compared to masks, this is quite a notable traditional piece.
The head is carved with the stylized, angular aesthetic typical of masks. The eyes feature white pigment inserts, giving the figure an expressive, spiritually alert gaze. The distinct braided crest hairstyle and the delicate, geometric scarification patterns incised on her chest and neck signify maturity, high status, and traditional ideals of beauty.
Such female figures were primarily used to honor specific women known for their exceptional character, dignity, and generous spirit. Instead of being displayed publicly or used in village-wide communal rituals, these carvings were usually kept privately or hidden away.
