Comes from a rare First Edition folio of the artist published by Albert Skira in Geneva, Switzerland in the 1950s. Printed on one side. Numbered at the lower right corner: 5. Excellent condition - never framed.

This is a pastel, and that dull, velvety luster which is the charm of work done in this medium is brought out to perfection. Pastels are notoriously fragile, but here the soft, all-pervading glow has happily withstood the ravages of time. This is partly due to the artist’s skill, but there is also reason for believing that he had discovered a method of ‘fixation’, the secret of which died with him. Here the nuances are rendered by the incorporation of whites and greys softened down to an extreme tenuity, and it is the contrast between these and rich effulgence of the blue sofa that accounts for the splendid luminosity of this picture.
