Subject, Style, and Materials: The large baluster-shaped body, surmounted by its fixed lid, is crafted from fine cobalt blue porcelain embellished with sumptuous figurative embroidery in pure gold. The decorative centerpiece is a remarkable 18th-century gallant scene, painted entirely by hand (with the artist's signature clearly visible at the bottom right). The sumptuous mount, which includes the massive quatrefoil base, the collar, and the scenic volute handles modeled with classical heads, is crafted from heavy, finely embossed and chased brass.
