Overview:
A magnificent, highly collectible hand-sculpted hard-paste porcelain sculpture of an open melon by the renowned contemporary ceramic artist Katherine Houston. This premium, intricately detailed piece features a cut-away section revealing highly realistic, individual hand-formed seeds nestled into a rich orange interior cavity. Following strict 18th-century porcelain traditions, Houston utilizes a delicate overglaze palette to build realistic depth across the variegated green melon rind, curling vines, and fragile leaves. The gracefully twisted stem provides both structural balance and a beautiful visual handle.
Base Inscriptions / Authentication: The underside features the artist's handwritten incised monogram script ("KHo"), a copyright insignia, and "USA 10", dating the piece's production exactly to the year 2010. A tiny, intentional vent hole from the firing process is present on the bottom crease.
