This authentic mid-19th-century Russian tea table is a premier example of pre-industrial “Russian Style” craftsmanship. Likely crafted from birch or maple, it features the iconic Khokhloma lacquer technique—a folk craft originating in the 17th century—defined by vibrant hand-painted floral motifs in red and gold against a black ground. The piece is distinguished by its primitive, all-wooden joinery. The presence of original, hand-carved wooden screws confirms its status as an early, handmade antique rather than a later mass-produced reproduction. Originally intended for a samovar, this octagonal table features a lower triangular shelf and three legs adorned with traditional scrolling vine work and medallions. Uniquely, the table can be fully disassembled thanks to its ingenious wooden screw construction, a rare feature that further highlights the skill and practicality of its original maker.
The top measures 17.5 inches at its narrowest point and 21.75 inches at its widest point (point to point).

Surface displays scattered finish loss, craquelure, and areas of fading to the hand-painted decoration, particularly across the tabletop. Minor scratches, scuffs, and edge wear throughout. Historical repair made across the top as seen in pictures, but has no give and is structurally sound overall. Original hand-carved wooden screws remain intact and functional, allowing the table to be disassembled, some movement is present if screws are loosened. Presents well with a richly patinated antique surface appropriate to a mid-19th-century folk art piece. All items are in vintage or pre-owned condition and show wear consistent with age and use, unless otherwise noted in the listing. Any significant condition details will be described and/or photographed; however, the absence of a specific mention does not imply the item is free from imperfections.
