The sculptor exhibits here his mastery of human anatomy, at the same time capturing the innocence of the boy, who appears to be showing off a newly found treasure ~ perhaps a seashell ~ to a companion nearby. Sculpted from select French walnut, the lad is depicted seated on a boulder.
Circa 1790s, it is sold with a turned pediment base that was added in the 19th century.
