Originates from Shanxi, in northern China, from the early 20th century, where local pine was worked using mortise-and-tenon joinery without nails, with a thick solid top and shaped aprons.In the domestic interiors of northern China, low tables served as auxiliary surfaces beside the kang, a raised platform used for sitting and resting. Their reduced height matched the custom of living close to the floor, established in northern China.Built in solid pine using traditional mortise-and-tenon joinery, without nails. The thick top rests on four square-section legs with arched lobed aprons. H-shaped lower stretchers reinforce the structure. The carpentry follows the language of Chinese northern provincial furniture.The patina retains the warm tone of aged pine, with the grain drawing deep lines on the top and a matte sheen. The surface shows marks, stains and traces of prolonged domestic use, integrated into the wood. The structure remains solid.It fits naturally in minimalist, japandi or contemporary rustic interiors. It works as a low living-room table, a base for an object composition or a support for a tea ceremony. Its restraint lets it combine with pieces from different periods.
