The history of the römhild pottery dates back to 1720. From 1958, the ceramicist siegfried gramann managed the pottery as töpferhof gramann k.g., a company with state participation. Later, it was fully nationalized and renamed veb töpferhof römhild. The volkseigener betrieb (official abbreviation: veb) was a legal form for industrial and service enterprises in the gdr that existed until june 30, 1990.
the pottery developed into the largest freehand pottery workshop in europe. It was privatized after german reunification.
