The top section consisting of a superbly carved central panel of intricate foliate and scroll carvings are characteristic of Renaissance carvings. Carved floral and foliate decoration both above and to the side. The door and cabinet corners display superb carved floral decoration.

Below the glass a carved medallion displaying blossoming flowers and Tudor style split rosettes.

Door features functioning half-mortise furniture lock, often used on historic chests or cupboards. The overall structure indicates an older, hand-forged or early industrial design, typical of metal hardware from the 18th or 19th century.

The sides are hand-planed panels and the cupboard stands on original feet. Very good to condition for age. Stable construction ready for use.

If you really look (really, really look) you will find that there have been some “modern” repairs. Nothing obvious, but over the past 300ish years people of various skill levels have made repair efforts.

This came to me with a story that it was shipped from France, dated early 1700’s and has been in the same family for many generations. There are signs that the dating is correct- hardware, joinery, wood, hand-planed panels, but dating pieces is not my specialty.
