Pickard China, founded in 1893 by Henry Pickard, is renowned for its high-quality, hand-painted porcelain, particularly its collector plates and custom dinnerware. The company has a long tradition of employing skilled artists who create intricate and beautiful designs, often featuring wildlife, landscapes, and historical scenes. Their collector plates are typically produced in limited editions, making them sought after by enthusiasts.
James Lockhart is a celebrated wildlife artist whose work is frequently featured on collector plates. His realistic and evocative depictions of animals in their natural habitats are highly prized. The "American Panther" plate, likely depicting a cougar or mountain lion, showcases Lockhart's talent for capturing the animal's power and grace, set within a detailed natural environment, and enhanced by Pickard's gilded decorative rim.
