These chairs belong to the tradition of the Spanish sling chair: a form rooted in the Iberian craft vocabulary of the "sillón de caderas" and the Spanish saddlemaker's chair, whose structural logic of suspended leather across a mortised wooden frame has remained essentially unchanged for centuries. The construction is disarmingly honest — thick cognac saddle leather forms the seat, back, and arm panels in one continuous sling, tensioned across a robust solid wood frame with wide flat arms and a full H-form stretcher base. The back panel is secured with original leather straps and double-buckle hardware, fully functional and in original condition.

The leather throughout retains its original cognac finish, having developed a magnificent deep patina over six decades. Both frames and all leather components are original and unrestored. See less
