The rectangular … Read more Antique 19th Century Indian Kutch solid silver casket. Richly decorated throughout with dense repoussé and chased floral ornament. The rectangular form is covered with scrolling foliage, stylised flowers and traditional decorative borders, reflecting the highly detailed silverwork associated with late nineteenth and early twentieth century Indian craftsmanship.

The hinged lid is fitted with a central carrying handle and secured by an ornate clasp, while the sides are similarly embellished with bold floral panels and foliate motifs. As often the case for Indian silver it doesn't have hallmarks, but has been acid tested and shows to be 900+ silver standard. The piece dates to the 1880-1890's.
