This ceramic lamp, produced by Søholm, is a unique piece from the Danish Modernist era, where the serene, organic character of the island of Bornholm meets the elegance of handcrafted artistry.
The lamp’s base has a slender, tapered silhouette with a light, sculptural profile. Its light glaze, in shades of ivory, cream, and soft grays, is enlivened by horizontal lines and a subtle, hand-painted frieze in shades of green and blue. It is this decoration—restrained yet full of life—that gives the lamp the distinctive character typical of Søholm’s 1960s designs.
Combined with a dark, geometric shade, the whole takes on a sense of harmony and modern elegance. The shade emphasizes the vertical rhythm of the base, and when lit, brings out soft reflections and a warm depth of color from the ceramic.
Although many Søholm models were attributed to designers such as Einar Johansen or Maria Philippi, this particular design is listed in the archives as a workshop project—the result of the manufactory’s team effort, unsigned by a single creator.
It is a lamp that captivates with its serene, Danish aesthetic: refined in form, delicate in expression, and perfectly at home in interiors where the authenticity of the material and timeless simplicity matter.
The lamp features a handcrafted shade, whose geometric, dark form creates an elegant contrast with the soft ceramic. As a product of artisanal craftsmanship, the shade may have minor imperfections typical of handmade items, which are considered part of its authentic charm.
