An impressive pair of Chinese carved and parcel-gilt architectural panels executed in the spirit of late Qing Dynasty decorative woodwork traditions. Each elongated panel is richly composed with deeply carved openwork reserves depicting scholars, attendants, and auspicious figures amidst scrolling vines, flowering branches, and stylized cloud motifs. Mythical phoenix-form carvings and geometric fretwork further animate the compositions, lending the pair exceptional depth and shadow play.

Crafted in hardwood and finished in a warm cinnabar-toned lacquer with gilt highlights, the panels demonstrate traditional Chinese pierced carving techniques associated with architectural latticework, scholar’s studios, and ceremonial interiors. The layered construction and reticulated carving allow light to filter through the surfaces, creating a sculptural quality equally effective in both traditional and contemporary interiors.
