“Good Night” Vienna-Style Porcelain Urn, Now as a Lamp Maiden and Candle, Signed F. Koller
A finely executed Vienna porcelain urn, richly decorated in deep oxblood ground with elaborate gilt ornamentation, is now mounted as a table lamp. The body is centered by an oval reserve depicting a young maiden holding a candle, delicately rendered in soft, luminous tones as she emerges from behind drapery. The composition—intimate and theatrical—draws upon the romantic visual language associated with late 19th-century Viennese decorative arts.
The portrait panel is signed lower right “F. Koller,” indicative of a studio decorator working within the Vienna tradition.
The urn is extensively embellished with layered gilding, combining burnished and matte finishes to articulate scrolling cartouches, beaded borders, and classical ornament. The richly enameled burgundy ground provides a dramatic field for the gilt decoration, while raised white jeweling adds further refinement. Twin gilt handles flank the form, reinforcing its neoclassical silhouette.
