This is a set of ten (10) original unnumbered limited edition Picasso abstract color linogravures (aka linocuts) printed in 1962 in Paris. Text was printed in Germany. The linogravures were bound into a book from which we pulled the linogravures listed here. The images are abstracted figures & animals (bull fighting, musicians and portraits). Printed in Paris in an unnumbered .limited edition (some of the linogravures are signed & dated in the plate) on heavy stock on one side only. Picasso worked in this medium (linocuts/linogravures) extensively from 1958 to 1961. Publisher: Editions Cercle D'Art, Paris, France. Date: 1962. First edition. Linocut size: H: 12.5" x 15". The images listed here were approved by Picasso for "Picasso Linogravures", 1962. These linocuts were first issued in signed editions of fifty by Galerie Louise Leiris and printed by Arnéra. Because of the 'reduction' method invented and used by Picasso, which uses just one plate of linoleum instead of a separate one for each color, it was impossible to make any more prints from the original plates. Therefore, in collaboration with Picasso and Galerie Louise Leiris, new linoleum plates were made at 42% of the original size, and it was from these that our prints were made. Ref: Bloch 909. (Later editions of this work, the editions of 1988 and 2020, were digitally copied, used lesser quality inks, inferior paper and were greatly reduced in quality.) This is a genuine linocut, dating from .
The Galerie Louise Leiris in Paris loaned Picasso's original linocuts for the creation of these linogravures.. During this production, an additional 50 linogravures were created in large format and were hand-signed by Picasso and which can be found online priced in the thousands. Dimensions: 15" x 12.5". Fine condition. Great for a huge wall treatment or several smaller groupings.
The prints offered here are the linogravures highly sought after by collectors, second only to the hand-signed group of 50. Extraordinary in their creation, detail, and condition, they are regarded unconditionally as fine art and consistently appreciate in value.
PLEASE NOTE: These are the original 1962 linocuts and not the later reissues of the 1962 collection or those from 1988.
