Sterling Silver and Cut Crystal Traveling Inkwell. It has a hinged silver top with reeded edges and a secure lockdown.. This inkwell was designed for traveling utilizing a screw-down mechanism and a vacuum seal. The lid is engraved and the bottom has a starburst design. It was made in London and measures 3.25" in length, 2" in height and 1.25" width. Traveling inkwells were used in England during the Victorian Era.
The inkwell can no longer be used for traveling because the leather seal surrounding the perimeter of the lid has deteriorated. It is more appropriately used as a desk object, pill box or container of small objects such as pins.
The bottom has minor scratches from wear. There are several tiny dents to the edges of the silver with one small but noticeable dent shown in the last photo. There is a small amount of residue in the interior corners of the inkwell that resisted a quick washing.
