A striking Regency Chinese Export jardinière with shimmering mother-of-pearl lac burgauté inlay, raised on its original stand with brass-capped legs and casters.
An elegant early 19th-century Regency period Chinese Export black lacquer jardinière with iridescent mother-of-pearl lac burgauté inlay, raised on its original stand with brass-capped legs and casters, circa 1810.
The octagonal jardinière is richly decorated with luminous shell inlay depicting a Chinese landscape with animals beside water, rocky outcroppings, and a distant pagoda, with blossoming foliage continuing around all sides. The mother-of-pearl decoration stands out beautifully against the deep black lacquer ground, giving the piece exceptional depth and presence.
The jardinière retains its fitted brass liner and side handles. Parcel-gilt accents outline the edges and stand, complementing the tonal variation of the inlay. The removable planter rests atop an elegant stand with splayed legs united by an interlaced fret-carved stretcher and terminating in brass caps and casters.
A sculptural and highly decorative example of early 19th-century Chinese Export lacquerware, created for the Regency taste for chinoiserie. Compelling as a planter or cachepot - a statement piece.
