Antique Victorian c.1850s Carved Rosewood Embroidered Silk Fireplace Pole Screen
Exquisite antique Victorian era (circa 1850's) fireplace pole screen used to shield people from the direct heat of a fire. This features a carved rosewood frame on a rosewood pole in which the height can be adjust up and down. The framed glass encloses a scene of a child or shepherd with a goat embroidered on a background of watermark silk with applied dried botanicals. The back of the screen has been covered in a burgundy satin damask fabric. Condition is very good, some fading to the damask on the back, wear and scuffing on the pole, stands up straight and is sturdy. Measures 55" H, 20" W, 18" D.
