Circa 1952 GMG chaise lounge by Greta Grossman for Sherman Bertram. One of 4 known examples, the others being in private collections and the MOMA. This chaise has been reupholstered in the finest fawn-colored mohair velvet. In a word? Stunning.

Greta Grossman, originally from Sweden, is without a doubt one of the leading female mid century modern designers and architects of the 20th century. She led a fascinating life and only recently had been credited with her achievements—not the least of which being the first to build a cantilevered modern home in California (overshadowed by her male counterparts). Because of this, she left it all behind to a quiet retirement outside of LA some time in the mid to late 60s. Really fun biographies available online.

This chair was acquired first hand from the original owner’s daughter. Her mother purchased it new, as an interior designer, in the early 1950s. It differs subtly from the chairs available from Gubi. It is a rare, vintage, original piece.
