This beautifully carved wood lion stands in a classic pose, with one paw resting on an orb, atop a rectangular plinth. It has a reddish-brown tone with traces of gilt wash peeking out of its textured mane. Wormholes, patination, and imperfect details suggest it’s a handmade antique sculpture. A substantial piece, it combines hints of primitive artistry with the heraldic dignity characteristic of late 19th-century decorative carvings. Acquired from an antique collector’s estate.
