No adornments, no frills, utilitarian construction that could be carved and assembled as needed for this large ski resort near the French/Swiss border. Les Arcs is a major French ski resort in the Tarentaise Valley, known for its snow reliability, high-altitude skiing, and connection to the vast Paradiski area, which links with La Plagne via the Vanoise Express cable car. Comprised of several purpose-built villages (Arc 1600, 1800, 1950, 2000), it offers ski-in/ski-out access, diverse terrain for all levels, and a mix of modern amenities and traditional charm, with activities extending beyond skiing to include snowshoeing, ice skating, and summer mountain biking. Charlotte Perriand designed and built Arc 1600, Arc 1800, and Arc 2000. She led the Les Arcs design team that included Roger Godino, Robert Blanc, Gaston Regairaz, Guy Rey-Millet, and Bernard Taillefer. She designed the resorts to have minimal rooms, with the idea that most guests spend their time outside. Instead the buildings have great rooms that are open to the sun and nature. See less
