This model, MS 30, was … Read more Incredible Danish mid century lounge chair and ottoman produced by Madsen and Schubell c 1960. This model, MS 30, was designed in the 1950s by Ib Madsen and Acton Schubell and features a rocking/reclining mechanism. With the push of the lever, you can select 7 different stationary positions of recline or set it to rock on the spring mechanism. The chair itself has the illusion of floating or walking thanks in part to the solid teak construction and the fine leather upholstery cradles the body. The ottoman also adjusts up or down to accommodate the sitter. Few examples of this design exist: it was not cheap to produce and it was not cheap to own. This example comes from the estate of a Navy general who was stationed in Copenhagen at the time of purchase.

The chair has been fully restored. The base was disassembled and reassembled to assure proper joint stability, sanded, repaired, oiled 3 times, and finally sealed with a five layer hand-applied durable clear coat in a satin finish. The mechanism was adjusted and repaired. The leather was conditioned and restored. Any damage has been repaired. The foam in the seat and headrest have both been replaced.
