A striking mid-century modern architectural tabletop centerpiece ashtray manufactured by the famed Italian studio Marble Art during the 1970s. This exceptional piece beautifully marries raw, organic Brutalist geology with sleek, Space Age industrial modernism, resulting in a sophisticated functional object or standout sculptural statement piece for an executive desk, coffee table, or bar.
The exceptionally heavy, thick circular ring base is meticulously carved from natural solid Italian travertine stone, displaying an exquisite porous texture with a versatile warm beige, cream, and sand palette. Highlighting its sculptural form is a sharp, deep-cut horizontal shadow groove that tracks smoothly around the outer circumference of the stone.
Nestled perfectly into the center well is a substantial, removable high-polish chrome insert dish. This dual-piece engineering ensures effortless maintenance while safely protecting the porous travertine from heat, discoloration, or oil contact. The flat base retains its original array of three dark green circular felt floor protectors, successfully shielding delicate furniture surfaces from scratches.
Excellent vintage condition. The heavy Italian travertine block is structurally pristine, showing no modern chips, cracks, or repairs outside of the stone's native organic pores, fissures, and pits. The bright chrome liner is remarkably clean and retains a mirror-like finish with only faint micro-surface scuffs consistent with light vintage age and gentle handling. Free from any lingering odors or burn residue.
