Suribachi refers to the Japanese earthenware used as a mortar (bowl) with a ridged interior. The ridges provide surface for mixing herbs, spices and teas.
This particular bowl is unique in that the exterior glazed finish is done in a soft pink - not the usual color for these pieces. The color makes the bowl very desirable for a collector.
The interior ridges are done with a combing technique and are glazed also.
The unglazed bottom has a faint “Made in Japan” mark and a stamp that is most likely a kiln mark.
This is a lovely piece to display in a kitchen or any table top.
