Original California coastal oil painting by listed artist Dorothy A. Gordoy, titled Carmel Surf. The composition captures the dynamic meeting of sea and rock along the Central California coastline, rendered with confident impasto and expressive palette knife work.
Waves break against rugged formations, with layered blues, whites, and earth tones conveying motion and depth. Gordoy, active in California and associated with the Sacramento art community, exhibited during the mid-century period, including participation in programs linked to the Crocker Art Museum’s Tuesday Club picture rental gallery.
This work reflects the enduring plein air tradition of California coastal painting, balancing atmospheric sky with the physical energy of the surf. Presented in a carved wood frame, the piece offers strong visual presence and regional relevance.
