Freestanding bookcase with black-painted iron frame and adjustable teak shelves. Scandinavia, 1960s.
A modular shelving system from Scandinavia, popular in Northern Europe and also made famous by the String brand, designed by Nisse and Kajsa Strinning in the late 1940s. The structure is composed of black-painted metal uprights with bent wire and three teak veneer shelves, adjustable using the characteristic interlocking system. The overall effect expresses the visual lightness and modularity that made this type of furniture a benchmark in postwar Nordic design.
