This spectacular pair of bronze sculptures was originally conceived as sophisticated decorative mouldings for fine cabinetry. Expertly restored and transformed into wall decorations, these coordinated figures offer a captivating visual impact, capable of transforming a corner of the home into a small, private gallery with a mythological feel.
Subject and Style: The two mirrored figures embody the sinuous, symbolist aesthetic of the Art Nouveau period. The design, typical of the first three decades of the twentieth century, is distinguished by the fluid lines of the armor and the meticulously chiseled outstretched wings. The beauty of the faces and the complexity of the hairstyles reflect the eclectic taste of the era, making this pair an excellent example of the fusion of architectural decoration and figurative art.
Material and Finish: Both mouldings are crafted from solid bronze with a natural patina that highlights the details of the reliefs through fascinating chiaroscuro effects. The back of each sculpture has been equipped with an antique iron hook, allowing for immediate and secure wall hanging. The transformation from a furnishing accessory to a hanging sculpture enhances its independent decorative character.
