Trademark: strehla pieces are often marked with an ink stamp "strehla keramik" inside a triangle or an embossed model number on the base. This vase bears the numbers 1257 and a stamp, as well as a very attractive, unusual geometric pattern with a beautiful petrol-colored glaze. These pieces are now popular collector's items of mid-century design.
strehla was founded in 1828. Some sources state that the company took its name from the saxon town of strehla, where it was originally located. In 1930, the company was acquired by the colditz ag stoneware factory. After world war ii, the situation changed. The area became east germany, and the company was renamed veb steingutfabrik strehla (veb strehla stoneware factory). Veb stands for volkseigener betrieb (people's owned enterprise).
in the 1960s and 1970s, the east german company primarily produced vases and flowerpots, which were exported to countries such as the netherlands. That's why vases from strehla are harder to find in germany than vases from west german companies. The work of the east german manufacturer strehla is characterized by a more subdued color palette, especially when compared to products from west germany. Often, a metallic glaze is applied over the base glaze layer.
strehla primarily used brown clay. The color petrol blue is rare. This piece has an attribution mark,
