A superb museum-quality piece, intended for the most discerning collectors and lovers of fine vintage Ligurian ceramics. This prestigious Savona majolica amphora is an extremely rare and luxurious historical piece, clearly dated to the early 18th century.
Subject and Style: The vase boasts an ovoid body embellished with spectacular and complex sculptural handles shaped like intertwined snakes. The decoration, in the renowned monochrome cobalt blue on a white background, depicts a classic landscape with architecture on the front, while the back features historic monograms, sinuous ribbon motifs, and the precious hand-painted date "1714."
Material and Finish: Masterfully crafted and brush-painted from fine majolica. The lustrous tin glaze enhances the intensity and fluidity of the blue paint, a typical and highly sought-after expression of the great Savona earthenware tradition.
