An impressive, rare mid-20th-century Chinese export porcelain statement lamp base in the traditional Rose Medallion style. Modeled after a classic Qing Dynasty sleeve vase/hat stand form, the hand-painted porcelain body features circular panels depicting an auspicious boy riding a ceremonial elephant, surrounded by hand-enameled peonies, floral scrolls, and gilded medallions in a rich palette of rose pinks, iron reds, and seafoam greens.
The porcelain body is flanked by hand-molded matte-gold elephant head handles and mounted atop a custom-fitted, dark-stained carved openwork wooden base.
Designed originally as a lamp, this piece provides an exceptional vertical scale perfect for Hollywood Regency, Palm Beach, or Grandmillennial interiors.
