Antique early 19th century English George III exotic wood desk box for stationery or sewing pannier. The box has a rosewood lid with the original gilt brass knob. It has its original bentwood handle veneered in rosewood and edged in boxwood. The base has been decorated with a Van Dyke pattern featuring geometric patterns of interlocking triangles of different woods. The black triangles are ebony and then inside the box is a typed sheet identifying the other woods from oyster yew, blackthorn and boxwood to lacewood, oak and laburnum. The interior is lined with original blue paper. This box stands on its four original brass ball feet.
Measures 7" x 4 5/8" x 7 1/4" tall. Good condition.
