Lombard school of the 17th century.The large scene presents in the center the seated Madonna offering her breast to the Baby Jesus, who instead reaches out to try to pluck a fruit from the basket handed to him by St. John, standing below them; all around, five figures of saints, recognizable by their iconographic attributes.from the left are St. Paul, holding the sword, St. Anne, lovingly watching over her daughter and grandson, St. Peter holding the keys of the Kingdom, St. Joseph with his staff and a carpenter's tool at his belt, and finally, last on the right, St. Charles Borromeo, whose presence in the work endorses the Lombard commission. Moreover, the painting comes from a private collection of a Lombard family, to which it has belonged since the 19th century.The work is still in first cloth and with original frame; it has some small patches and signs of previous patches on the back.It is presented in a late 19th-century frame. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
