"A spare ink drawing with light watercolor washes depicting bare winter trees set against low mountains, a fence line suggested in economical linework. The composition reflects McDaniel's characteristic concern with geometric form and negative space. McDaniel was a Nantucket-based artist whose work entered the collections of Mrs. Paul Mellon and the Sara Roby Foundation; four paintings are held in the Smithsonian American Art Museum. He exhibited at Nantucket's Main Street Gallery from 1973 until his death in 1986 at age 37. Signed on the reverse: Keith R. McDaniel.
